Jan Švankmajer's Complete Short Films DVD Collection Released by BFI in 2007

Back in 2007, the British Film Institute launched a comprehensive DVD collection of Jan Švankmajer's short films spanning from 1964 to 1992. This three-disc set, designed for Region 2, offers better quality and extra features compared to the North American release by Kino Video. It includes some rare bonus content and a 56-page booklet. Recently, at the 44th International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary, Švankmajer, now 74, received the Crystal Globe for his impactful work in cinema, which he humorously accepted despite his anti-nationalist stance. His next project, a horror comedy titled 'Surviving Life (Theory and Practice)', is set for release in 2010. The BFI collection features an easy-to-navigate interface with thematic organization and English subtitles, showcasing Švankmajer's unique blend of animation styles and thought-provoking themes. Additionally, it includes the Quay Brothers' 1984 documentary, 'The Cabinet of Jan Švankmajer', which reflects on his artistic journey and the struggles against political oppression.
