Jan Fabre's 'The Quiet Source' at Scuola Grande di San Rocco During Venice Biennale
From 9 May to 22 November 2026, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice hosts Jan Fabre's exhibition 'The Quiet Source', featuring three new silicon bronze sculptures: 'The Man Who Holds the Sword (Oath of My Father)', 'The Artist as a Stray Dog in His Basket', and 'The Man Who Cuts the Grass'. Curated by Giacinto Di Pietrantonio and Katerina Koskina, the show is organized by Galleria Gaburro and the Linda and Guy Pieters Foundation, running parallel to the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. Fabre is the first living artist to exhibit at the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, following his precedent-setting solo shows at the Louvre (2008) and the Hermitage (2017). The sculptures are installed along the central axis, engaging in dialogue with Tintoretto's Renaissance frescoes. Each work incorporates family references: two bear the face of his father Edmond, one his brother Emiel. 'The Man Who Cuts the Grass' is placed beneath Tintoretto's 'Glory of Saint Roch' in the Sala dell'Albergo and is designed for visitors to sit on, adding a performative element. The catalogue is published by Forma Edizioni, Florence.
