James Wolfe's Recent Sculpture Exhibition at New York Studio School Showcases Dynamic Steel Forms

exhibition · 2026-04-22

James Wolfe's 'Recent Sculpture' exhibition will take place at the New York Studio School from July 10 to August 10, 2014, signifying his return to New York after spending many years on the West Coast. Curated by Karen Wilkin, the showcase presents fourteen sculptures, mostly crafted from powder-coated steel, along with two larger pieces made of oiled steel. Drawing inspiration from the constructivist styles of Picasso and Julio González, Wolfe, who assisted Anthony Caro in the 1970s, creates works that suggest movement. Highlights include 'Just Right' (2013), 'T Time' (2014), and the seven-foot 'Spread Wicket' (2013). Additionally, the 'Quartet' series features four sculptures resembling trees. Before relocating to Los Angeles in 1990, Wolfe exhibited at André Emmerich Gallery.
