James Casebere's 'Seeds of Time' Exhibition at Sean Kelly Gallery Explores Climate Crisis Through Architectural Models

exhibition · 2026-04-19

Currently on display at Sean Kelly Gallery in New York until 2 August is James Casebere's ninth solo exhibition, 'Seeds of Time.' This showcase highlights three key concepts: environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and biomorphic design. Casebere creates hyperreal models for his photography, drawing inspiration from architecture, art history, and film. Water is a prominent motif in these new pieces, which vividly reinterpret designs by architects Francis Kéré and Balkrishna Doshi. One standout work, 'Stairs,' is inspired by Doshi's affordable housing project in India, with colors pushed to surreal extremes. Casebere hopes viewers feel pleasure, comfort, and curiosity about these influential architects. He also expresses admiration for contemporary artists like David Brooks and Shahzia Sikander. Following this exhibition, he will showcase related sculptures at the Archive Gallery in Rhinebeck, New York, from 20 July to 13 October.
