Jameel Art & Health Lab at COP 28: Art, Climate, and Health Intersection

At COP 28 in Dubai (December 2023), the Jameel Art & Health Lab, founded in early 2023 by the World Health Organization, discussed how art can address climate crisis and health. The Lab promotes policies linking art, culture, health, and environment. A 2019 WHO-supported report provided evidence of art's positive impact on well-being, leading to new research investments, including a comprehensive updated collection expected by year-end. The Lab presented guidelines for governments and policymakers to use art therapy to mitigate climate-induced anxiety, especially among youth, and to encourage behavioral change through artistic initiatives. Art helps 'humanize' the climate problem, making urgency relatable and fostering hope rather than fear. The Lab continues dissemination efforts, exemplified by the COP 28 event.
