Jamal Cyrus selected for BMW Art Journey with Afro-Atlantic research itinerary

Jamal Cyrus, an American artist, has been chosen for the BMW Art Journey, emerging from a shortlist of three artists featured at Art Basel Miami last year. His project involves traveling to Accra, Paris, London, Granada, and New Orleans to conduct interviews with artists, musicians, historians, and philosophers exploring Afro-Atlantic creative traditions. The journey will be documented through print publications, online platforms, and social media. A jury including Massimiliano Gioni, Gabi Ngcobo, Victoria Noorthoorn, Philip Tinari, and Susanne Pfeffer selected Cyrus. In a statement, Cyrus described the journey as a transformational process of travel, dialogue, collective imagination, and intuitive response to generate new ideas for his work. The next BMW Art Journey recipient will be selected during Art Basel in Hong Kong, with an announcement expected early this summer.
