Jaime Hayón Retrospective at Valencia's Centre del Carme

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The exhibition 'InfinitaMente' at the Centre del Carme in Valencia, running until April 14, is one of the most comprehensive retrospectives of Spanish designer Jaime Hayón. A highlight of Valencia's World Design Capital 2023 program, the show is staged by Studio Hayón in the neoclassical wing of the former Academy of Fine Arts. Hayón, winner of Spain's National Design Prize in 2021, is known for his eccentric, eclectic, and rigorous style blending kitsch, pop, and naif elements. The exhibition spans his past, present, and future: recent acrylic paintings evoking street art and forest fantasies are shown alongside a recreation of his 2003 'Mediterranean Digital Baroque' exhibition at David Gill Gallery in London—never before seen in Spain. Also new is 'Masquemask', a series of seven large masks woven by Polish artisans and suspended like tapestries, commissioned by the Lodz Design Museum. The central nave features totemic modules displaying over twenty years of furniture designs, with surrounding drawings, materials, and techniques. A cabinet of curiosities holds objects collected for inspiration, and notebooks and travel diaries reveal his creative process. Hayón, who lives much of the year in Valencia, has designed for brands including Cassina, Bosa, Baccarat Lladró, Franz Hansen, Artflex, Coccotti Collezioni, and Paola C. He recently completed interiors for The Standard hotel in Bangkok and is finishing another hotel in London's Battersea district.
