Jacques Villeglé's Geographic Retrospective at Le Quartier, Quimper

exhibition · 2026-04-23

From June 30 to October 15, 2006, Le Quartier in Quimper, France, hosted a retrospective of Jacques Villeglé, curated by Dominique Abensour to celebrate Villeglé’s 80th birthday. Born in Quimper in 1926, Villeglé is a prominent member of the Affichistes movement. The exhibition categorizes his works by their geographic origins, showcasing urban exploration and the evolution of poster collecting after the advertising regulations of the 1990s. Among the pieces displayed is one of his final affichiste works from Buenos Aires, created in 2003. His method of naming works by location and date reduces the artist's influence. A monograph from Flammarion is expected in 2007, and his writings are featured in La Traversée Urbi et Orbi (Transédition, 2005). Additionally, his works will be included in the Nouveaux Réalistes exhibition at Grand Palais in March 2007.
