Jacques Martinez Returns to Nice with New Paintings and Studio Works

Over twenty years after his last solo exhibition at the museum, Jacques Martinez is showing again at Mamac in Nice, though not in the main galleries but in the twin seaside spaces Marine and Ponchettes, which are part of the museum. The exhibition runs from April 23 to June 12, 2016. It presents a new cycle of paintings alongside a selection from the artist's studio archive. The show is titled "Ghiribizzi," a term suggesting whimsical or capricious ideas. Martinez, born in 1941 in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, has been a key figure in the French art scene since the 1960s, known for his vibrant, gestural abstract works. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see both recent and older works in dialogue, highlighting the continuity and evolution of his practice. The venue's location by the sea adds a distinctive atmosphere to the presentation.
