Jacovitti's Surreal Comics Celebrated in Pordenone Exhibition

The PAFF! International Museum of Comics in Pordenone presents 'Jacovitttti come non lo avete mai visto', a major exhibition dedicated to Benito Franco Giuseppe Jacovitti, the Italian cartoonist known for his grotesque and surreal style. Curated by Valerio Bindi and Luca Raffaelli, the show features over 170 original works and runs until October 13, 2024. The title, spelled with four 'T's, originates from a metal sign in Jacovitti's apartment that read 'Jacovitti' with eight 'T's. The exhibition eschews chronological order, instead exploring the evolution of Jacovitti's style through thematic sections that highlight his compositional mastery, dynamic lines, and geometric forms. It reveals Jacovitti as a multifaceted artist influenced by early 20th-century avant-gardes and Renaissance perspective, challenging his reputation as merely a children's humorist. The museum aims to position Pordenone as an international hub for comics culture. The exhibition includes bilingual explanatory panels in Italian and English.
