Jacopo Miliani's Video 'Deserto' Premieres at Matadero Madrid

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Florentine artist Jacopo Miliani (b. 1979) has concluded a month-long residency at Matadero Madrid, a creative space in the city's former slaughterhouse, with the premiere of his video 'Deserto (Copyright Jacopo Miliani)'. The work continues his exploration of multiple identities, queerness, and homosexuality, drawing inspiration from Pier Paolo Pasolini's 'Teorema'. Shot in Madrid with Spanish performers from dance and theater, the video alternates between a faceless narrator reciting Pasolini's text and two nearly identical dancers in repetitive movement. The project was realized in collaboration with Emma, a nonprofit for artistic and cultural practices founded by Italian Veronica Valentini. Miliani's practice spans video, performance, and independent publishing, including his ongoing project 'SelfpleasurePublishing'.
