Jacopo Mazzonelli's Hybrid Music-Visual Art at Galleria Civica di Trento

Jacopo Mazzonelli (Trento, 1983), trained in piano and contemporary music, creates installations that evoke sound without direct audio. His solo show "To be played at maximum volume" at Galleria Civica di Trento features ABCDEFG (2015), winner of the Fondo Privato Acquisizioni prize at ArtVerona, comprising seven modified pianos each playing a single note. The vernissage included a performance of a score by Matteo Franceschini, played by the artist and pianist Eleonora Wegher. Other works like Capriccio (2011), Bodies (2016), and the Volume series (2017) encase wind instruments in concrete, stripping them of function. The video Dido's Lament shows Leopold Stokowski's hands conducting Purcell's piece in two repeating sequences, emphasizing musical gesture as symbolic act.
