Jacopo Benassi's 'Fags' Book Chronicles 25 Years of Photography
Jacopo Benassi's first solo museum exhibition 'Vuoto' opened on September 8, 2020 at the Centro per l'arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Prato, curated by Elena Magini. The exhibition, currently closed due to Italy's November 6 DPCM, spans twenty years of work and continues the museum's exploration of body, identity, and gender through photography, following previous shows like 'Soggetto nomade' and Ren Hang. Concurrently, the bilingual photo book 'Fags' was published by Nero Editions. The book collects images from 25 years since Benassi's coming out in 1995, addressing themes of gender, body, and self-portraiture, and includes a conversation between the artist and curator. A fundraising initiative launched December 7, 2020 allows purchase of limited edition prints (100 copies, signed, €150 each, including the book) to support the Centro Pecci's cultural activities, in collaboration with Galleria Francesca Minini of Milan. The book will be presented in an online event as part of the Centro Pecci's digital programming.
