Jac Leirner Wins 2019 Wolfgang Hahn Prize; Natascha Süder Happelmann to Represent Germany at Venice Biennale
On Monday, the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig announced that Jac Leirner has been honored with the 2019 Wolfgang Hahn Prize. Jochen Volz, a juror, praised her impactful work in Institutional Critique since the 1980s. Meanwhile, on Thursday, curator Franciska Zólyom chose Natascha Süder Happelmann to represent the German Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, collaborating with Helene Duldung on a project focused on names and identity. Also on that day, Hito Steyerl was awarded the Käthe Kollwitz Prize 2019, which carries a value of €12,000 and will be presented in February. Additionally, Bard College revealed on Tuesday that Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev is the recipient of the Audrey Irmas Award for Curatorial Excellence, accompanied by a $25,000 prize.
