J&Peg's 'Stories' Exhibition at Castel dell'Ovo in Naples

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The Italian artistic duo J&Peg, formed at the Accademia di Brera and based in Milan and London, present their solo exhibition 'Stories' at Castel dell'Ovo in Naples, curated by Marina Guida. The show spans multiple rooms of the castle, exploring themes of contemporary reality, social media, and identity. The first room features acrylic and PVC photographs of varying sizes, with small silhouettes highlighted through post-production painting in bright colors against black backgrounds, as seen in 'Waiting for the Destiny' (2010), which evokes the pictorial visions of Hieronymus Bosch. The second floor presents more mysterious works: faceless individuals pose, conveying presence and absence, as in 'Caso 915' (2013), which comments on job insecurity. Another wing showcases recent large-scale lambda print and dibond photographs addressing the role of social networks in global society, with subjects flaunting opulence in furs and jewelry for the Instagram camera, such as 'Molly', 'Manuel', and 'Candida'. Each work features a semi-transparent veil suggesting a mask worn to conform to societal expectations. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Assessorato alla cultura e al turismo of the Comune di Napoli and Galleria Poggiali of Florence, which previously collaborated with J&Peg in 2008 for 'Working Matres' curated by Achille Bonito Oliva.
