Ivrea's Red Brick Factory Bought by Local Consortium for Social Innovation Hub
Local entrepreneurs' consortium ICONA srl has acquired the historic Fabbrica di Mattoni Rossi in Ivrea, Italy, for €900,000 from DeA Capital Real Estate SGR, which manages the Atlantic 2 – Berenice fund. Constructed by Camillo Olivetti in 1896, the 8,500 sqm site will be repurposed into a center for social innovation, spearheaded by President Andrea Ardissone and Councilor Alberto Zambolin. The initiative, titled "The Future Is Back Home" (#thefutureisbackhome), will emphasize blockchain, smart grids, IoT, AI, and more. The first phase, set to conclude by July 2018, will focus on communication and networking, while the second phase will commence in September 2018 for fundraising efforts. Ivrea was included in Italy's UNESCO tentative list in 2012.
