Ivan Terranova's 'Fabula' at Fondazione Brodbeck Explores Extinct Sicilian Wolf
At Fondazione Brodbeck in Catania, Ivan Terranova presents 'Fabula', an installation using seventeen infrared camera traps to capture nocturnal footage from the Sicilian Apennine forests. The cameras, placed over a year, record the habitats once roamed by the extinct Sicilian wolf. Visitors pass through a black curtain into a dark space lit only by the monitors, where videos alternate with unrecognizable sounds and scenes. The work aims to highlight ecosystem disruption and humanity's loss of ethical connection with nature, turning the wolf into a symbol for wilderness respect. Terranova, born in Catania in 1990, also installs the same camera traps inside the gallery, reversing the predator-prey dynamic to make civilized humans the prey. The exhibition is curated by the artist and runs at Fondazione Brodbeck.
