Ivan Carozzi's 'Cronache dall'Italia nascosta' collects hidden Italian folklore and legends

Ivan Carozzi, a writer and TV author, has published a new book titled 'Cronache dall'Italia nascosta' (Chronicles from Hidden Italy) with Blackie Edizioni. Structured as a guide, the anthology contains about eighty stories covering each Italian region, blending history, local folklore, and pop mythology. Among the tales are Diego Maradona playing football in mud for charity, the sanctuary of San Romedio in Val di Non where two founders of the Red Brigades married in 1969, the Turin hotel where Cesare Pavese died by suicide, and the square in Jesi where Costanza D'Altavilla gave birth to Frederick II in public. The book also includes a two-part story about Bob Dylan's Italian-American girlfriend Suze Rotolo and her sister Carla Rotolo. Suze, daughter of Italian-American Communist Party members, was Dylan's lover and appears on the cover of 'The Freewheelin''. After their breakup, Suze moved to Perugia, where she fell in love with Enzo, a worker at the Perugina chocolate factory. Dylan wrote 'Ballad in Plain D' in response. Carla Rotolo, an artist and activist, worked with ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax and later moved to Santa Teresa di Gallura, Sardinia, where she lived until her death in 2014.
