IVAM Examines Julio González's Depiction of Women

The IVAM in Valencia has opened an exhibition dedicated to Julio González's treatment of women, drawing from its own collections. The show spans family portraits, modern women, academic and abstract nudes, real and idealized figures, and historical-political allegories, tracing his stylistic evolution from full forms to empty ones and from figuration to abstraction. Some works capture the emancipation of contemporary women. The presentation is chronological and thematic, covering his early professional models, family portraits, peasant and urban women, mothers and readers, and political allegories. González's family environment, particularly the jewelry workshop of his aunts and wife, influenced his sculpture and decorative objects linked to the female body.
