IUAV Venice workshop focuses on Syrian reconstruction

The annual summer architecture workshop, W.A.Ve 2017, is taking place at the Università Iuav di Venezia, with the theme "Syria/The Making of the Future," running until July 14. This event follows the "Sketch for Syria" project from 2015, which engaged 132 architects and resulted in an exhibition at Iuav. Rector Alberto Ferlenga highlighted its connection to earlier projects such as "Omaggio di Venezia a Palmyra" and efforts in post-conflict rebuilding. Professionals from leading firms are mentoring students. Emanuela Carpani, the superintendent, emphasized the need for alignment between UNESCO's principles and defense strategies. The workshop honors Iuav alumni Gloria Trevisan and Marco Gottardi, who perished in the Grenfell Tower fire, and features two exhibitions showcasing works by Alessio Romenzi and Luca Sola.
