IUAV Fashion Show and Dune Magazine: Venice's Academic Fashion Scene

Fashion at IUAV showcased collections by undergraduate and graduate students coordinated by Christian Pellizzari and Fabio Quaranta. Despite pandemic restrictions, the creations reflected contemporary design and the Global Goals 2030. Maria Luisa Frisa, head of the fashion program, emphasized the school's freedom and cohesive community, which fosters innovation. Venice's international environment, with its Biennales and foundations like Palazzo Grassi and Fondazione Prada, offers students unique opportunities. Frisa noted that the pandemic spurred creativity and a desire to work together. She stressed the importance of physical space for exhibitions and fashion shows, viewing digital as complementary. The academic journal Dune, printed by Grafiche Veneziane and published by Flash Art, aims to provide critical analysis of fashion. Its third issue received about 70 international submissions. Frisa defined fashion discourse as analyzing objects' significance within a system, not just clothing. Donors include Maria Grazia Chiuri, Nicoletta Fiorucci, Maison Valentino, and Manteco.
