Italy's Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka: Art, Tech, and Renaissance Design
The Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, designed by Mario Cucinella, will feature the Farnese Atlas from the MANN museum in Naples, making its first trip to Asia. The pavilion, located in the Saving Life district of lot A9, is themed 'Art Regenerates Life' and modeled after the Renaissance Ideal City. It includes a wooden theater for daily performances, a piazza as an open-air workshop, and a rooftop Italian garden with a contemporary labyrinth. Exhibits are divided into sections: Io (individual), Noi (society), Territory, and Spirituality (Holy See). The Io section features contemporary installations by Jago, Oriana Persico, and Francesca Leone, exploring health, environment, and AI. The Noi section showcases future Italian infrastructure and social projects. The Territory section rotates regional displays. The Spirituality section will display Caravaggio's 'Deposition of Christ' at 30 cm from the ground. Four drawings from Leonardo da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus, owned by the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana since 1637, will be shown in rotation. Tintoretto's portrait of Ito Mancio (1585) will dialogue with Arturo Ferrarin's aircraft, which flew from Rome to Tokyo in 1920. A Kansai TV survey ranks the Italian Pavilion as the most anticipated by Japanese visitors. Expo runs from April 13 to October 13, 2025.
