Italy's Culture Ministry to Hire 100 New Staff Under New Decree

institutional · 2026-04-27

Italy's Council of Ministers approved a decree on June 15, 2023, introducing urgent measures for public administration reorganization, including provisions for the Ministry of Culture (MiC). Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano announced that the decree allows for 100 new hires targeting technical and managerial personnel, with up to 10 positions for the minister's direct staff and 90 for roles supporting the ministry's expanded functions, including those related to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and the green transition. The expenditure is over €600,000 for 2023 and €1.2 million annually from 2024. Sangiuliano stated this addresses a severe shortage of specialized workers such as engineers, IT experts, architects, chemists, and physicists, aiming to make public administration competitive with private sector employers. Additional ongoing recruitment includes a course-competition for technical managers, a competition for 518 officials (archivists, librarians, restorers, archaeologists, architects, paleontologists, demoethnoanthropologists, art historians), and the scrolling of 750 units from the AFAV ranking. The decree also covers university staff, digitalization of Jubilee paths, and reorganization of the Ministry of Labor.
