Italy's 2022 Budget Allocates €1 Billion for Culture
The Italian Council of Ministers approved the 2022 Budget Law, allocating €1 billion to culture out of a total €23 billion package. Key measures include €110 million for the audiovisual sector under the Franceschini Law, raising the minimum annual fund from €400 million to €750 million, and a 40% tax credit for cinema. The FUS (Single Fund for Entertainment) increases by €20 million to over €400 million annually. A new SET fund provides €20 million in 2022 and €40 million from 2023 for entertainment workers' welfare. For cultural institutions, €20 million is allocated, plus €150 million for the lyric-symphonic foundations' recovery (€100 million in 2022, €50 million in 2023). Archives receive €100 million through 2025 for property acquisition and safety upgrades, plus €5 million annually for leases. The cultural heritage protection fund gets €100 million. Libraries and bookstores benefit from €40 million initially and €30 million annually for 2022-2023, with €10 million for the independent bookstore tax credit. The Facade Bonus is extended at 60% for 2022. €230 million funds the 18APP culture bonus for 18-year-olds. €20 million supports artisan activities in small towns (under 500 inhabitants) via tax exemptions and property concessions.
