Italy's 2022 Art Calendar: From Biennale to Canova, Palazzo Strozzi to Anish Kapoor
The 59th Venice Biennale, themed 'The Milk of Dreams' in honor of Leonora Carrington, is set to take place from April 23 to November 27, 2022, under the direction of Cecilia Alemani. National pavilions and various collateral events will be hosted at Giardini, Arsenale, and throughout historic Venice. Celebrating the bicentennial of Antonio Canova, exhibitions will be held at the Pinacoteca di Bologna and Mart di Rovereto, along with additional displays across Italy. In Florence, Palazzo Strozzi showcases 'Donatello and the Renaissance' and Olafur Eliasson's largest solo exhibition in Italy. Rome's Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Palazzo Barberini, and MAXXI will present 'Tutto è Santo' for Pier Paolo Pasolini's centenary starting March 2022. Turin's Sale Chiablese will feature over 250 photographs by Vivian Maier from February 2022. Anish Kapoor's retrospective will be at Gallerie dell'Accademia, while Pirelli Hangar Bicocca will host works by Anicka Yi, Steve McQueen, and Bruce Nauman. Palazzo Reale will display Titian, Dolce & Gabbana fashion, and a retrospective of Hieronymus Bosch.
