Italy opens international search for directors of Museo delle Civiltà and Paestum Archaeological Park

The Italian Ministry of Culture has launched an international call for directors of two major cultural institutions: the Museo delle Civiltà in Rome and the Parco Archeologico di Paestum e Velia. Minister Dario Franceschini announced the selection process to fill vacancies left by Gabriel Zuchtriegel, who moved to Pompeii, and the late Filippo Maria Gambari, who died of COVID-19. The Paestum park, which includes multiple archaeological sites, attracted 450,000 visitors in 2019. The Museo delle Civiltà houses collections from the Pigorini museum, including a Neanderthal skull, and welcomes over 50,000 visitors annually. Directors will serve four-year renewable terms with a gross annual salary of €83,142.69 plus potential bonuses. Applications are due by June 20, 2021, with interviews in October and final selection by November 30, 2021.
