Italy Leads Sony World Photography Awards 2017 Shortlist with 23 Finalists
Italy is the most represented country in the shortlist of the Sony World Photography Awards 2017, with 23 Italian photographers among the finalists and 25 receiving special mentions. The competition, organized by the World Photography Organisation, marks its tenth anniversary this year. Over 227,000 images were submitted from 183 countries. Among the Italian finalists, Ylenia Viola was recognized as a Commended Photographer for her image ".V.A.R.I.A.T.I.O. 15 – I Guardiani di un Universo Parallelo," which ranked among the top 50 in the Open Enhanced category. The awards are divided into four sections: Professional, Open, Youth, and Student Focus. Winners of the Open categories will be announced on March 28, while Professional category winners and overall winners will be revealed on April 20 in London.
