Italy issues stamp for MAXXI museum's 10th anniversary
To celebrate the first decade of the Museo Nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo (MAXXI) in Rome, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development has issued a commemorative postage stamp, available from November 24, 2020. The stamp, designed by Gaetano Ieluzzo, features the iconic cantilevered glass facade of Zaha Hadid's architecture overlooking the Flaminio district. Printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in rotogravure on white self-adhesive paper, the stamp measures 30x40mm and bears the inscriptions "10°ANNIVERSARIO DELLA FONDAZIONE", "MUSEO NAZIONALE DELLE ARTI DEL XXI SECOLO", the MAXXI logo, "ITALIA", and the postal rate "B". A run of 400,000 copies has been produced, each costing €1.10, available at philatelic counters in Florence, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Rome, Turin, Trieste, Venice, Verona, and online at Poste Italiane. A collector's folder containing a block of four stamps, a single stamp, a canceled and stamped postcard, and a first-day cover is also offered for €15. MAXXI President Giovanna Melandri expressed pride in the recognition, stating that the museum has strived to be more than a museum—a laboratory for the future open to contemporary languages and dialogue between art, science, and artificial intelligence. She noted that even during lockdown, the stamp allows MAXXI to travel into people's homes. The museum's planned new branch in L'Aquila has been postponed due to the pandemic.
