Italy funds 58 UNESCO sites and creative cities with €70 million
The Ministry of Tourism in Italy has greenlit 58 initiatives through the Siti Unesco e città creative fund, dedicating €70 million from a total budget of €75 million. This program, initiated in the spring of 2022 alongside the Ministry of Economy, focuses on municipalities recognized for their UNESCO World Heritage sites and certified creative cities. All projects are required to be finalized by November 30, 2025, impacting 250 municipalities across 16 regions. The fund aims to assist areas that experienced a decline in tourism in 2020, financing efforts in digital marketing, tourist routes, and infrastructure improvements. Key projects include the Siena Tourism Hub, Bagno di Romagna, and €6 million allocated for 'Milano e Leonardo.' Italy's cultural tourism sector draws over 142 million visitors, generating more than €12 billion in revenue.
