Italy Establishes Special Superintendence for Recovery Fund Projects
Under the leadership of Minister Dario Franceschini, Italy's Ministry of Culture has set up a new Superintendence (Soprintendenza speciale Pnrr) to oversee cultural initiatives financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) until December 31, 2026. This organization is designed to facilitate approvals while safeguarding cultural heritage. Additionally, four new independent national museums have been launched: the Museum of Digital Art, the Archaeological Parks of Cerveteri-Tarquinia and Sepino, and the National Picture Gallery of Siena. An Observatory for Gender Equality has also been established. Following the 2014 reform, the number of autonomous institutes has risen to 43, with annual visitors increasing from 41 million to nearly 55 million by 2019, and revenue climbing from €135.5 million to €242.4 million.
