Italy drops Green Pass requirement for museums from April 1, 2022

other · 2026-04-27

Italy will end its state of emergency on April 1, 2022, lifting the Green Pass requirement for access to museums, archaeological parks, exhibitions, archives, libraries, and other cultural venues. The new rules, established by decree-law no. 24 of March 24, 2022, eliminate both the reinforced and basic Green Pass for these sites, though surgical masks remain mandatory. For indoor cinemas, theaters, and concerts, the reinforced Green Pass and FFP2 masks will still be required from April 1 to 30, 2022. Outdoor performances will require only the basic Green Pass and FFP2 masks during the same period. The announcement was made by Italy's Ministry of Culture. The change comes as media attention focuses on the war in Ukraine, but the pandemic continues to influence lifestyles and norms globally. The easing of restrictions marks a significant step for Italy's cultural sector, which has been heavily impacted by COVID-19 measures.
