Italy Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing with Art Events

On July 20, 2019, the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Italy organized a series of art events across the country. At MAXXI in Rome, a triple event included a live connection from Kazakhstan for the launch of astronaut Luca Parmitano on the BEYOND mission, the opening of the exhibition 'Lunar City' curated by Alessandra Bonavina, and a live set by Martux_m and Giulio Maresca titled 'Apollo 11 Reloaded'. The MAUTO in Turin presented 'L'Auto vista dalla luna', displaying four Italian cars from 1969 alongside a Chevrolet Corvette driven by astronauts. Palazzo Madama in Turin opened 'Dalla terra alla Luna', curated by Luca Beatrice and Marco Bazzini, featuring over 60 works from the 19th century to 1969. The MUSE in Trento held 'Moon Date' with educational activities, performances, and a new exhibition. At Castello di Costigliole d'Asti, artist Alessandro Sciaraffa hosted an 'Exocena' space dinner. The MANN in Naples inaugurated 'MANN on the moon', showcasing ancient lunar iconography and a new café. Fondazione CRC in Cuneo presented 'Destinazione Luna', an immersive multimedia experience with a video mapping on Palazzo Vitale.
