Italy Bans Kanye West and Travis Scott Concerts Over Security Fears

Authorities in Italy have canceled upcoming concerts featuring Kanye West and Travis Scott, originally set for July in Reggio Emilia, due to concerns over public safety and order. Prefect Salvatore Angieri made the announcement on Friday after the local Jewish community requested the cancellation of West's performance. Community leader Nicoletta Uzzielli called for a replacement event that would emphasize music as a unifying force. West, now referred to as Ye, has faced significant criticism for his antisemitic and racist remarks, resulting in a ban from entering the UK. Scheduled for July 17 and 18 at RFC Arena, the concerts were also to include The Chainsmokers, Rita Ora, and Swedish House Mafia. Factors for the cancellation included prior concert cancellations in other nations, potential counter-demonstrations, and anticipated large crowds. Scott's Astroworld festival in 2021 led to 10 fatalities and numerous injuries. Last month, the Wireless Festival in London was canceled after West was barred from the UK. His concert in Poland was also canceled, and the Marseille show was postponed. In a January statement to the Wall Street Journal, he denied being antisemitic or a Nazi, attributing his behavior to bipolar disorder.
