Italy allocates additional €15M for canceled art exhibitions due to COVID-19

economy-finance · 2026-04-27

An extra €15 million has been designated by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism (MiBACT) to compensate organizers of art exhibitions that were either canceled or delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This decree was signed by Minister Dario Franceschini, supplementing the €20 million previously allocated in August from the "Emergency Fund for Cultural Enterprises and Institutions." Following the latest DPCM issued on October 25, which enforced stricter measures by closing cinemas and theaters while allowing museums to remain open, Franceschini underscored the importance of these funds for the arts. Additionally, the government has approved over €1 billion for culture and tourism, including €100 million for cinema and entertainment, €50 million for cultural enterprises, and €400 million each for accommodation and travel agencies. MiBACT has also initiated a €5 million call for editorial translators.
