Italy adopts casting guidelines to combat abuse in entertainment industry
On March 3, 2023, several Italian industry organizations announced new regulations to combat sexual misconduct in casting processes. The initiative involved collaboration among groups like the Unione Italiana Casting Directors, Unione Nazionale Interpreti Teatro e Audiovisivo, and others, along with the International Casting Directors Association. These guidelines, inspired by the #MeToo movement and incidents such as the Weinstein case, aim to enhance safety in the film and audiovisual industries. Key measures include banning hotel room auditions, imposing restrictions on late-night meetings, and requiring advance notification for nudity and simulated sexual scenes. A support email for victims was also established.
