Italo Zuffi's dual exhibition 'Fronte e retro' opens at MAMbo and Palazzo De' Toschi in Bologna

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The MAMbo museum in Bologna, in collaboration with Palazzo De' Toschi, presents 'Fronte e retro', a comprehensive exhibition dedicated to transmedia artist Italo Zuffi (born 1969 in Imola). The show is divided into two parts. At MAMbo, works from Zuffi's early career to 2020 explore themes of contrast and opposition affecting the artist's body and sculptural form. A notable selection of 'Scomposizioni' and 'Osservatori' is displayed in the Sala delle Ciminiere, engaging with the surrounding architecture. Works addressing competition critique the power structures of the contemporary art system through performances and happenings that involve visitors. At Palazzo De' Toschi, new site-specific productions focus on Zuffi's recent sculptural research, where carved pieces are animated by performance and questioned through fragmentation. The theme of the word is central, explored through the artist's 'Poesie Doppie' and as the origin of sculptural form. The exhibition is curated by Giulia De Sanctis.
