Italian Villages Showcased at Venice Architecture Biennale
At the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, the European Council of Art has organized a display focusing on Italian villages devastated by five earthquakes from 1976 to 2016. The exhibition, under the hashtag #NO(F)EARTHQUAKE, aims to raise awareness about living with natural risks and to highlight the resilience of affected communities. On September 28, at the InParadiso Art Gallery in the Biennale Gardens, Fondazione Cariplo will present its experience supporting Lombardy's villages and local communities through the AttivAree program. Over the last decade, the foundation has allocated 100 million euros to restore more than 400 historical assets. The conference 'Borghi: un patrimonio da preservare e riattivare' will discuss best practices in conservation, seismic risk management, and the fight against abandonment and depopulation. Examples include Sabbioneta, Lovere, Val Camonica, and the Valli Resilienti project centered on Borgo Lavenone and Borgo di Rebecco. The event is free with mandatory online registration. 2018 is the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
