Italian Sunday Exhibition at Palais Metternich in Vienna
The Italian Embassy in Vienna hosts 'Domenica', a group exhibition curated by Marcello Farabegoli featuring artists Pablo Chiereghin, Aldo Giannotti, and Massimo Vitali. The show explores the theme of Italian Sunday leisure and its underlying tensions, referencing Luciano Emmer's 1950 film 'Domenica d'agosto'. Chiereghin's works include a banner reading 'Mir fehlt das Meer' and bilingual signs that play with ambiguity. Giannotti contributes detailed drawings of crowds invading football fields and, together with Chiereghin, a large installation covering the embassy's ballroom with real grass, forming a football pitch interrupted by walls. Vitali's photographic works depict crowded beaches with anemic colors, echoing Emmer's film but from a detached perspective. The exhibition runs until June 30, 2017, at Palais Metternich, the historic former residence of Austrian Chancellor Klemens von Metternich.
