Italian state museums open on Ferragosto Monday

Italian state museums will remain open on Ferragosto (August 15), a Monday, which is typically a closing day for most cultural sites. Culture Minister Dario Franceschini emphasized the opportunity for both residents and the hundreds of thousands of Italian and international tourists to combine beach or mountain holidays with art visits. Notable openings include the Colosseum, Pompeii, Uffizi, National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria (housing the Riace Bronzes), Egyptian Museum of Turin, and Herculaneum excavations. Exceptions include MAXXI and the Vatican Museums in Rome, which are not state-run, and MACRO in Rome. Many non-state museums will also open, such as Ca' Pesaro in Venice, Triennale and Triennale Design Museum in Milan, MAMbo and Museo Morandi in Bologna, MAN in Nuoro, Mart in Rovereto, and Castello di Rivoli.
