Italian sculptor Pasquale Santoro dies at 89 in Rome

Pasquale Santoro, known as Ninì, died in his studio in Rome at age 89. Born in Ferrandina in 1933, he moved to Rome in the 1950s. He founded Gruppo Uno and was known for abstract sculpture that engaged with space. His studio was in via Leon Battista Alberti. He shared his life and practice with artist Giovanna Martinelli. Santoro worked across painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Critic Giulio Carlo Argan wrote about his evolution from painter to sculptor. His works are held at MUSMA in Matera. His last exhibition was Segni elementari in Alberobello, curated by Lorenzo Madaro at the invitation of journalist Antonio Gnoni.
