artist · 2026-04-26

On March 26, 2024, the esteemed Italian painter and sculptor Giuliano Vangi passed away in Pesaro at the age of 93. Vangi, who was born on March 13, 1931, in Barberino di Mugello, had made Pesaro his home since the 1960s. Mayor Matteo Ricci commended Vangi for revitalizing the city's public spaces. As Pesaro holds the title of Italian Capital of Culture for 2024, plans for a museum dedicated to Vangi at Palazzo Mazzolari Mosca have been proposed. His works, which include the statue of San Giovanni Battista in Florence and the Crucifix for the Cathedral of Padua, have been showcased in international exhibitions like the Venice Biennale. Vangi received many accolades, including the Praemium Imperiale for sculpture, and a museum honoring him opened in Mishima, Japan, in 2002.
