Italian painter Daniele Fissore dies at 70
Daniele Fissore, a self-taught painter born in Savigliano near Cuneo in 1947, has died at age 70. He began his artistic career over forty years ago and gained early recognition by participating in the X Quadriennale di Roma in 1975. In the 1980s he moved to London, where the British government granted him a studio, and he exhibited at the House Gallery in 1981. After returning to Italy, he held numerous solo and group shows and developed an ecological turn in his work. He established a long-lasting partnership with Galleria La Bussola in Turin. In 2007 he received major media attention for the public art project Eroica at Nuovo Parco Dora in Turin, created for the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. The work spans 560 square meters and rises skyward. In 2011 he began the Eroi painting series, reproducing original cycle paintings at urban scale. His civil funeral will be held on March 10 at 10:30 AM in the Sala della Crusà Nera, with the wake at SS. Annunziata hospital in Turin.
