Italian museums donate proceeds to earthquake relief
Italian Culture Minister Dario Franceschini announced that all proceeds from state museums on Sunday, August 28, 2016, will be donated to areas affected by the earthquake that struck Umbria, Abruzzo, and Marche. The crisis unit of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage is monitoring and protecting artistic heritage damaged by the quake. Franceschini urged Italians to visit museums as a sign of solidarity. The MAXXI museum in Rome will donate its entire takings from Saturday, August 27, to aid coordinated by the Lazio Region. The cultural system of Turin and Piedmont mobilized, with the city and region jointly deciding to donate museum proceeds from Sunday, August 28. Regional assessor Antonella Parigi secured participation from the presidents of the Consorzio La Venaria and Castello di Rivoli, who will contribute revenues from visits to the Reggia and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
