Italian Museums Celebrate Women's Day with Feminist Art Events

For International Women's Day on March 8, Italian museums host a series of events highlighting women's issues and feminist art. The #nonsibaratta campaign, initiated by Verona-based artists Silvia Lana and Ilaria Marchesini (Parallel Lines), replaces mimosa flowers with potatoes as a symbol of protest against sexism. CAMERA in Turin presents a lecture by Walter Guadagnini on women photojournalists, featuring Gerda Taro, Margaret Bourke White, Lee Miller Penrose, Susan Meiselas, and Letizia Battaglia. The Pinacoteca Corrado Giaquinto in Bari holds a lecture by director Clara Gelao on female saints in paintings from the 13th to 16th centuries. The #nonsibaratta campaign culminates in a live art event at Asestante showroom in Milan.
