Italian Museum Educators Secure Official ATECO Code
The Italian Association of Museum Educators (AIEM), founded in 2021, has obtained the official ATECO code 85.52.02 for the profession of museum educator. President Marianna Di Rosa announced the achievement, which provides a formal classification for freelance professionals, distinguishing their role from tour guides and clarifying their activities including research, training, co-design, evaluation, and cooperation with public and private entities. The code was granted after discussions with other professional associations and institutional negotiations. AIEM aims to promote adoption among professionals and continue dialogue with cultural networks. Di Rosa noted persistent challenges such as outsourcing of educational services in cultural venues, but also positive signs since the late 1990s in integrating education and culture. The code represents a step toward professional recognition and quality certification under Law 4/2013.
