Italian motion graphics pioneer Flavio Campagna dies of COVID-19 at 59

Flavio Campagna, known as Kampah, a pioneer of television motion graphics, died of COVID-19 at age 59 after a month in intensive care at Ospedale Maggiore di Parma. His brother Gino Campagna announced the news on Facebook. Kampah was a multifaceted artist: designer, director, painter, illustrator, photographer, and stencil artist. He won an Emmy for an ABC title sequence, had a work at MoMA, created a video for U2, collaborated with Fiorucci and Ridley Scott, and designed the title sequence for the Sydney Olympics. He studied at Istituto d'Arte Toschi in Parma and specialized in advertising graphics. He moved to Los Angeles young, mentored by Mario Convertino, and became a reference in motion graphics. His works entered top galleries while remaining in the streets, honoring Battiato, Bodoni, Frida, Spock, and Cinecittà's peplum films. Tributes poured in from singer Morgan, cartoonist Leo Ortolani, cartoonist Mario Natangelo, journalist Andrea Scanzi, and Parma mayor Federico Pizzarotti.
