Italian Government Launches €850M Urban Regeneration Fund
The Italian government has issued a decree allocating €850 million for urban regeneration and suburban recovery projects in municipalities and regions with over 60,000 inhabitants. The interministerial decree was signed by Infrastructure Minister Paola De Micheli, co-signed by Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieri and Culture Minister Dario Franceschini. This funding is part of a larger €8.5 billion plan spread over 13 years, included in the 2020 Budget Law, aimed at reducing social marginalization and degradation while improving urban decor and environmental quality. The first tranche of €853 million is now available to regions and municipalities, which have 120 days from publication in the Official Gazette to submit proposals. Selection criteria prioritize projects that leverage additional public and private resources, involve private operators, emphasize innovation and green economy, invest in public housing and high-tension housing areas, and recover cultural, environmental, and landscape assets. The decree also favors the use of BIM methodology and digital design.
