Italian Gallerists Report Strong Sales at FIAC 2016

Italian gallerists reported strong sales and international interest at FIAC 2016, despite a noted decrease in American collectors. Raffaella Cortese sold works by Anna Maria Maiolino, Roni Horn, and Miroslaw Balka during the preview. Magazzino gallery from Rome highlighted success with Italian artists Piangiamore, Benassi, Bartolini, Vedovamazei, and Romanian Prix Duchamp winner Mircea Cantor, thanks to a collaboration with Parisian designer Vincent Darré. P420 from Bologna sold over ten works to French, Swiss, and European collectors, with museums considering acquisitions. They presented a monographic focus on Irma Blank's 1970s 'Trascrizioni' series. Monitor gallery sold works by Samorì, Montaron (who will have a solo show at Fondation Ricard in November), and Montessori, with a 1989 Montessori work fetching €31,000. Tornabuoni Art sold out all four works by Alberto Biasi from the 'Torsioni' series, and placed works by Paolo Scheggi and Piero Dorazio (both 1965) into American and Dutch collections.
