Italian galleries make strong showing at Armory Show 2017
The 2017 edition of The Armory Show in New York wrapped up, highlighting a notable Italian representation. GAM (Galleria Arte Maggiore) from Bologna made a significant impact with two booths and garnered favorable attention in the New York Times for its exhibition of Giorgio Morandi's pieces. Pier 92 featured works by Sebastian Matta, Gordon Matta Clark, and Pablo Echaurren, who had previously been showcased at the 2013 Venice Biennale. To reduce expenses, Italian galleries collaborated, with Luce Gallery sharing space with Monica De Cardenas, showcasing Davide Balliano and Marisa Merz. Monitor gallery presented Nicola Samorì alongside a sculpture by Nathaniel Mellors & Erkka Nissinen. Laveronica Arte Contemporanea exhibited Marinella Senatore, who will have a solo show at the Queens Museum on April 9, 2017. Additionally, Magazzino Italian Art is set to open on June 28, 2017, in tribute to Margherita Stein.
