Italian Galleries Expand in Lisbon: New Spaces for Monitor and Madragoa

exhibition · 2026-04-27

On May 24, 2023, two Italian galleries, Monitor and Madragoa, will unveil new locations in Lisbon, just before the ARCOLisboa art fair, which runs from May 25 to 28. Madragoa, established by Matteo Consonni in 2016, is moving to Rua dos Navegantes 53A, situated in the historic center near Basilica da Estrela. The redesigned space, created by Ab Rogers Design, will feature a solo exhibition by Sarah Benslimane (born 1997, Besançon) titled New Works 2023, her first in Portugal, available until July 15. Meanwhile, Monitor, led by Paola Capata since 2017 at Rua Dom João V, 17A, is relocating to Rua da Pàscoa 91 and will launch with the group show Housewarming, highlighting works from various artists, exploring themes of domesticity and intimacy.
